I Tried My Daughter’s Skincare Routine — And It’s Costing Me 2.5x More

My wife’s always had her own skincare and beauty routine — her own bottles, her own thing. When my daughter turned into a teenager and started raiding my wife’s shelf, I figured, fine, good even — same products, just used a little faster. I did the math and braced for maybe one and a half times the usual spend.

Instead, somewhere along the way, “sharing” turned into “each of them buying her own.” My wife replaces hers, my daughter replaces hers, and now I’m not funding one skincare routine used by two people — I’m funding two full separate ones. I ran the actual numbers: two and a half times what I’d budgeted for, not one and a half.

So every now and then I do the responsible thing: raid my daughter’s shelf and try whatever face cream or “special” soap is sitting there, just to see what exactly I’m funding.

Verdict, every time: not built for me. Between MMA training and whatever a gym bag accumulates on its own, I do not need to also smell like a candle store that lost a fight with a spa. My training partners have opinions about it. Not compliments.

So here’s the actual plan for this blog: I’m hunting down soap, body wash, and grooming stuff built for a grown man — stuff that survives an MMA class, not stuff that belongs on a fourteen-year-old’s shelf. I’ll write it up here, alongside everything else I actually use day to day — training gear, MMA equipment, and whatever else comes up raising three kids (five, eleven, and fourteen keep things interesting). I’m also hoping to get back into painting after a few years away — when that happens, expect a post about it too.

No sponsored fluff, nothing I haven’t actually used myself. If it’s on this blog, it’s because I bought it, tried it, and have an opinion about it — usually a strong one.

More soon.
